Arne Slot Says Liverpool Must Produce Something Special Against PSG

Arne Slot understands the upcoming challenge for Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal, as they are up against a strong PSG side that dominated the last leg convincingly. Considering that, Liverpool is on the brink of elimination if they do not produce something magical against PSG in the upcoming high-stakes encounter.

“We know we need an exceptional performance to go to the next round but that’s completely normal when you face the champions of Europe. In the 49 home games we have played under me, 36 times we were able to score two goals or more.” said Arne Slot while talking to the reporters.

“Yes, we have not played all these 49 games against Paris Saint-Germain, I realise that, but the Premier League and Champions League opponents we had were very strong. So there is a belief we can do special things tomorrow but we need to be very, very, very special to achieve that.” added Arne Slot.

Slot has been facing growing criticism after Liverpool’s poor attempt to defend their Premier League title and their heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Following three straight losses to Brighton, City and PSG, Liverpool managed to quiet the critics for a short time with a 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.

However, if they crash out of the Champions League without much fight, the pressure on Slot will only increase ahead of Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Slot knows his side must show a much better performance than they did in Paris, where they struggled to keep the ball and barely tested the PSG defence.

“We are playing the champions of Europe so that makes the task more difficult but not impossible. For now let’s just focus on the job on hand, start aggressive and make sure we can get back in the tie.” said Arne Slot.

“Even Saturday showed how important a goal is… minutes (later) we scored the second. That is what football is about, a goal can change the momentum, which happened negatively for us at Manchester City.” added Arne Slot.

He then expressed optimism in the team, saying they could win the upcoming UEFA Champions League clash against PSG by employing a similar strategy they tried to execute in Paris.

“People probably find it very hard what I am about to say now but the approach is not so different tomorrow than it was in Paris. For the people who know me I never tell them to play in a low block for 90 minutes,” concluded Arne Slot.
