Argentina Complete Stunning Comeback Against England to Reach World Cup Final
Argentina produced a remarkable comeback to defeat England 2-1 in the latest FIFA World Cup semi-final at the Atlanta Stadium.
England looked to be in control for much of the contest after Anthony Gordon gave his side a deserved lead in the 55th minute. The Three Lions had created the better chances throughout the game and appeared on course for a place in the World Cup final as they defended their advantage well into the closing stages.
However, Argentina refused to give up. Their persistence finally paid off in the 85th minute when Enzo Fernandez found the equalizer, giving the South American side a huge boost with only a few minutes of normal time remaining. The goal shifted the momentum completely and set up a dramatic finish.
With the match heading towards extra time, Argentina struck again deep into stoppage time. Lautaro Martinez scored in the 92nd minute to complete a stunning turnaround and silence the England supporters.
England then pushed forward in search of another equalizer but could not break through Argentina's defence before the final whistle. The defeat brought an end to an impressive World Cup campaign for the Three Lions, who had looked like strong contenders after their performances in the knockout rounds.
Argentina's fighting spirit once again proved decisive on the biggest stage. After surviving a difficult spell in the second half, they showed composure when it mattered most and took full advantage of their late opportunities.
The victory sends Argentina into the FIFA World Cup 2026 final, where they will face Spain in a blockbuster title clash. England, meanwhile, will take on France in the third-place playoff as they look to finish the tournament on a positive note.
