World Cup Officials Defend Decision As Fans Continue Heated Debate

The Argentina vs Egypt VAR controversy has become one of the biggest talking points of the FIFA World Cup after Egypt had what looked like a decisive second goal wiped out following a lengthy VAR intervention.

Officials stated that Mac Allister's shirt pull was minimal and did not materially affect the play. They also determined that Salah's challenge involved normal contact rather than a clear foul.

Those explanations have divided opinion rather than settled it.

Some former referees believe the officials applied the laws correctly because the earlier foul had a direct impact on the attacking move. Others feel football supporters are left confused when similar incidents receive different interpretations from one match to another.
