Argentina to Keep Messi on the Bench for Final Group Fixture Against Jordan
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that World Cup top scorer Lionel Messi will begin his team's final group-stage match against Jordan on the bench.
The 39-year-old is leading the Golden Boot race with five goals in his first two matches. He also scored twice against Austria, becoming the all-time leading goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.
Speaking to the reporters ahead of the Jordan clash, Lionel Scaloni said the management has decided to bring Messi in the second half, so that his workload can be managed accordingly.
"Leo [Messi] will most likely come on in the second half. We talked and agreed that it was better that way, but obviously it's also good for him to stay in competitive form." said Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.
He further said that Argentina are not taking Jordan lightly, as they are a good team that can bring challenges for them in the upcoming fixture.
"Jordan is a good opponent, and our intention will be to have the ball and dominate through possession. The opponent's forwards are fast and we will have to take that into account." said Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni.
