Argentina Set June Friendlies in USA Ahead of Historic Title Defense Kick-off

Defending champions Argentina national football team will continue their preparations for the 2026 World Cup with two international friendlies in the United States in early June, the Argentine football federation confirmed. Argentina are set to face Honduras national football team in Texas on June 6 before taking on Iceland national football team three days later in Alabama.

The matches form part of Argentina’s final build-up before the tournament begins on June 11 across the United States, Mexico and Canada. The expanded competition will feature 48 teams and a total of 104 matches, marking the largest edition in World Cup history.

Argentina’s Group And Opening Fixture

Argentina have been placed in Group J alongside Austria, Algeria and Jordan. They will open their title defence on June 16 against Algeria in Kansas City.

The group stage will run until June 27, after which the tournament will move into the knockout rounds. The final is scheduled for July 19.

The opening match of the tournament will see Mexico national football team face South Africa national football team at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

Expanded Format And Structure

The 2026 World Cup will feature 12 groups of four teams each. The top teams will progress to the knockout stages, continuing through to the final in mid-July.

The tournament will be staged across three host nations, making it the first edition to be shared by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
