Amitabh Bachchan the Indian actor is worth $400 million. He gained fame during the 1970s.  He was known as Bollywood's classic "angry young man." His dad, Harivansh Rai Bachchan, was a famous Hindi poet. Amitabh is often called the Shah of Bollywood. He's had a thriving career for fifty years. He has performed in over 200 films. During this period, he became recognized as one of India's finest actors.

Amitabh Bachchan is not only famous in India. He also has a huge fan base in the United Kingdom, South Africa, Russia, and Australia. Besides acting, he is involved in voice acting, film production, and TV hosting. His contributions to cinema have earned him numerous awards. The awards include the Padma Shiri from the Indian Government. The French Government in 2007 gave him a special award called the Knight of the Legion of Honour. However not being a regular in Hollywood he took a role in the film "The Great Gatsby."

Early life

Amitabh Bachchan, originally named Inquilaab Srivastava. He was born on October 11th, 1942, in Allahabad. His first name, Inquilaab, roughly means "long live the revolution," reflecting India's struggle for independence against British rule.

His father, following the advice of another poet, changed his name to Amitabh. It means "the light that will never die." When he entered the film industry, Amitabh adopted the surname Bachchan. It translates to "child-like" in Hindi, previously used by his father as a pen name.

After finishing secondary school, Amitabh attended Sherwood College in Nainital before transferring to Kirori Mal College. During his youth, he drew inspiration from actor Dilip Kumar. He also incorporated Kumar's acting techniques into his own. This blend, coupled with Bachchan's emotional intensity, gave rise to the iconic "angry young man" persona that propelled him to fame.

Career 

Amitabh Bachchan started his acting journey in 1969, working as a voice narrator in the film "Bhuvan Shome." His first leading role came in 1971 with "Anand." In the following years, he earned a reputation for playing cynical, antagonistic characters in movies like "Parwana," "Guddi," and "Bombay to Goa." Most of these films did not perform well at the box office. 

By the age of 30, Bachchan faced many box office failures. It wasn't until he starred in Zanjeer. His famous angry young man persona emerged. He found success in violent crime films which led him to continue with roles in "Deewaar" and "Sholay." Audiences connected with Bachchan, who came to symbolize the struggles of the underprivileged against a corrupt system.

In the late '70s, Bachchan became known for playing double roles in movies, showcasing his versatility. This trend continued into the early '80s. Until he suffered a serious injury while performing a stunt. That injury led to a ruptured spleen. After recovering, he returned to filming. However ongoing health issues made Bachchan contemplate a shift towards a career in politics.

After spending three years in politics, Amitabh returned to acting in the late '80s. He enjoyed a few hits. But a series of box office flops in the early '90s impacted his career. This led to a five-year break from acting. During this gap, Bachchan established his own production company. He made efforts to reinvent himself for a successful comeback. Amitabh Bachchan has ventured into various business endeavours over the years. In 2013, news surfaced that he acquired a 10% stake in Just Dial. A move that proved profitable over time. He owns a 3.4% share in Stampede Capital. A company involved in cloud computing. His family also possesses around $250,000 worth of shares in Meridian Tech, a U.S.-based consulting company.

Controversy

In 2016, during the Panama Papers leak, it came out that Amitabh Bachchan, along with other well-known figures, had offshore business entities. This raised concerns about whether he used these companies to evade taxes and engage in potentially fraudulent activities. The issue resurfaced in 2017 with the "Paradise Papers," once again prompting questions about Bachchan's business dealings.

Real Estate

Amitabh Bachchan is said to have a lot of properties in India. Some reports say he owns five bungalows in Mumbai's Juhu-Vile Parle Development Scheme. In 2004, he bought a property for office use, which also has a gym. One of these bungalows is rented to Citibank, bringing in a good rental income.

He and his family supposedly live in a two-story bungalow called Jalsa near J.W. Marriott in Juhu. Another source mentioned that one of these bungalows is over 8,000 square feet. The family is believed to still have their old family home on Clive Road in Mumbai, where Amitabh's father lived. Besides, Amitabh Bachchan is said to own agricultural land in Bhopal, Barabanki, and Lucknow.
