Aiden Markram to Lead Manchester Super Giants Following Lucrative Hundred Deal

Aiden Markram secured a big deal at the recent Hundred auction and is now set to captain Manchester Super Giants in the upcoming season. He was the most expensive overseas buy at the event, as MSG bought him keeping an eye on his smart batting and captaincy skills.

The head coach of MSG, Justin Langer, is quite happy to have Markram in the team, as he is also part of the franchise’s wider group in other leagues.

"It's nice to have him in three of our teams: brilliant player, outstanding human being, and also real captaincy material. That's one of the facets of his game that we love, his leadership." said Justin Langer.

England’s white-ball captain, Harry Brook, has been retained by Sunrisers Leeds for the upcoming season, but they are not sure whether he will captain the side or not. The coach, Daniel Vettori, is hopeful that he can change Brook’s mind before the start of the tournament, as his captaincy could prove beneficial for the team.

"I think he likes the team, so maybe we can twist his arm and get him there. We'll just wait and see." said Daniel Vettori.

Vettori acknowledged that Harry Brook’s upcoming schedule in international cricket is very tight, so he will make the Sunrisers captaincy decision after evaluating his different commitments.

"We understand Harry's commitments and how full on he is. He'll come [into the Hundred] on the back of a Test series and a white-ball series as well. He'll only be able to join up with us one or two days before the start of the [first] game.” said Daniel Vettori.

"That'll be a conversation between himself and myself around whether he thinks he wants to do it. But the likes of Mitch Marsh, Dan Lawrence, Zak Crawley have all got captaincy experience as well. So we can lean on those guys too." added Daniel Vettori.

Meanwhile, Southern Brave are looking forward to appoint an overseas player as the team captain in the Hundred 2026 season, with Marcus Stoinis and Tristan Stubbs being the most favored options.

"There are a few leaders in the side already. [Marcus] Stoinis is one, Stubbsy [Tristan Stubbs] is one. They've done well in recent times: Stoin for his side in the Big Bash, likewise Stubbs winning his first SA20 with SEC [Sunrisers Eastern Cape]. We do see some leaders in the side but we'll have to wait." said South Brave head coach, Hemang Badani.
