Markram Urges Composed Approach Before New Zealand Showdown in T20 World Cup Semi Final

Markram Urges Composed Approach Before New Zealand Showdown in T20 World Cup Semi Final

South African captain Aiden Markram has called on his team to take a calm approach ahead of the high-stakes T20 World Cup semi-final clash against New Zealand. He said no team can be considered a favorite in the upcoming match, as either side can win by delivering a strong performance.

“With regards to being favourites or not, that's all different people's opinions. (For) us as a team, (we want to) really just try to focus on putting good games of cricket together and playing that exciting brand that we've been trying to play the last 18 months or so, and if it comes off, then hopefully it's entertaining and can sort of put us into a good position.” said Aiden Markram while talking to the reporters.

Markram then reiterated his team’s approach of playing aggressive cricket from the start of the innings. He backed the side to once again take the attack to New Zealand with the same strategy, as it could give them a strong chance of winning the match.

"We are not trying to do anything different tomorrow. We'll keep hammering away at the things that we have done well and that have got us here. If we can execute that well again tomorrow, we stand a chance." said Aiden Markram.

He then applauded the brilliance of the New Zealand team, saying they are a quality side who cannot be underestimated in the high-pressure semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

“I wish cricket was that easy. New Zealand are a quality team. They've proved that over many years now, and we had a good run out against them in the group stages, but both teams have played a lot of cricket since then, and it's a completely fresh start tomorrow,” said Aiden Markram.

“It being a semi-final is exciting as well, so I don't think it's as straightforward as just being able to repeat that. There are a lot of variables in this game, but the boys are very excited for the opportunity to play in a semi-final against a good team like New Zealand, and we'll try to bring our best game to the front again,” concluded Aiden Markram.
