Rashid, Zadran Rested for Test as Afghanistan Reveal Squads for Upcoming India Series

Afghanistan have announced their squads for the one-off Test and ODI series against India, which will start on 6 June in New Chandigarh.

Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain the team in both formats, while star spinner Rashid Khan and batter Ibrahim Zadran have been rested for the Test match. Both players were part of Afghanistan’s previous Test against Zimbabwe in October 2025.

The test side includes specialist batters Sediqullah Atal, Rahmat Shah, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, while Afsar Zazai and Ikram Alikhil have been selected as the wicket-keeping options. The squad also has Azmatullah Omarzai and Sharafudin Ashraf as all-round choices.

Meanwhile, Nangyal Kharotai, Bilal Sami, and Rahmanullah Zadran have also earned their first call-ups to Afghanistan’s test side. In the bowling department, Qais Ahmad will head the spin attack, while Bilal Sami, Zia Sharifi, and Saleem Safi will lead the fast bowling of the team.

Talking about the ODI squad, experienced players like Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan add strength to a spin-focused group that also has Nangyal Kharotai and AM Ghazanfar.

The ODI series between India vs Afghanistan will kick off in Dharamsala on 14 June, with the next two matches set for Lucknow and Chennai on 17 and 20 June.
