Afghanistan Secure Comfortable Win Over Ireland in Rain-Hit ODI

Ibrahim Zadran scored a steady half-century before Rashid Khan starred with a six-wicket haul, as Afghanistan defeated Ireland by 92 runs in the rain-affected second ODI at Bready Cricket Club.

Notably, the match was shortened to 47 overs per side due to rain. After winning the toss, Ireland captain Paul Stirling chose to bowl first, but the decision did not work in his team's favor as Afghanistan put up a strong total of 299/8.

Opener Ibrahim Zadran played a key role with a well-made half-century, holding the innings together strongly from the start.

The 24-year-old finished as Afghanistan's highest scorer with 84 off 97 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes. He also put on a century partnership with fellow opener Sediqullah Atal, who contributed 45 from 50 balls.

Apart from them, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai also played brief cameos, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz and captain Rahmat Shah chipped in with 32 and 30, respectively.

Ireland's bowling effort was shared across the attack that lacked discipline. Jai Moondra and Mark Adair finished with two wickets each, while Gavin Hoey, Curtis Campher and Harry Tector chipped in with one wicket apiece.

In the second innings, Ireland struggled to bat confidently and were bowled out for 207 in 33.4 overs, despite a fighting half-century from Cade Carmichael.

Carmichael was Ireland's highest scorer with 62 from 66 balls, while opener Andy Balbirnie was the only other batter to make a notable contribution, scoring 36 off 42 balls.

Rashid Khan led Afghanistan's bowling attack with an outstanding spell, taking six wickets for 34 runs in 7.4 overs. Due to this strong performance, he also earned the Player of the Match award in the end.

Azmatullah Omarzai also made an impact with two wickets, while Fazalhaq Farooqi claimed one as Afghanistan completed a crushing victory over Ireland by 92 runs.

The visitors have now taken a 1-0 lead in the five-match series after a convincing win in the 2nd ODI. The first match of the series, which was also set to take place at the same ground, was abandoned on Wednesday because of heavy rain.

Both teams will now move to Belfast for the remaining three ODIs. The matches will be played on August 10, 12, and 15 at the Civil Service Cricket Club.
