Reports emerging this week confirmed that Abrar Ahmed will not feature in the 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League. The decision surprised many within league circles, especially considering the mystery spinner had already secured a No Objection Certificate from the Pakistan Cricket Board.
What followed has been a stretch of unanswered questions. Chattogram Royals, the franchise that had planned around Abrar’s inclusion, have not issued a statement. No injury update surfaced, and no scheduling conflict emerged. With the tournament approaching, the lack of explanation has become part of the story.
Even without Abrar, Pakistan’s presence in the league remains strong. Pace bowler Ihsanullah became one of the most discussed names at the players’ auction after attracting the highest overseas bid. Noakhali Express moved decisively, banking on raw speed and aggression to strengthen their attack.
The same franchise also added Haider Ali, whose international experience brings familiarity rather than hype. His earlier BPL stints offered mixed returns, yet teams continue to value his ability to stabilize the middle order. Elsewhere, all-rounder Jahandad Khan found a spot with Durbar Rajshahi, adding depth rather than headline appeal.
This edition of the BPL will unfold with a noticeably altered structure. The league now features five teams, down from seven, following ownership changes and franchise exits. Defending champions Fortune Barishal will not take part, nor will Khulna Tigers, leaving the title race wide open.
While preparations continue, attention continues to drift back to one unresolved issue. Abrar Ahmed’s withdrawal remains unexplained, and until that changes, the silence will keep drawing notice.
