The overhyped Indian batter, Abhishek Sharma, is yet to score a run in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He has now scored three consecutive ducks in the tournament, with the most recent coming in the match against Netherlands on Wednesday. This dismal show by Abhishek in the mega event has clearly exposed his technique, as well as all the false hype built around him.
By getting out on a duck in the recent Netherlands clash, Abhishek Sharma has now joined Pakistan’s Saim Ayub in an unwanted T20I record. He has now registered his name in a list of players who have recorded most ducks in T20Is in a single calendar year. Saim Ayub currently leads that list, but it seems Abhishek is in a hurry to replace him by the end of this tournament.
6 – Saim Ayub (Pakistan, 2025)
5 – Chalermwong Chatphaisan (Thailand, 2024)
5 – Kushal Bhurtel (Nepal, 2024)
5 – Dharma Kesuma (Indonesia, 2025)
5 – Parvez Hossain Emon (Bangladesh, 2025)
5 – Abhishek Sharma (India, 2026)
Besides matching the above unwanted record, Abhishek Sharma also became the third player in T20 World Cup history to register consecutive ducks in his first three innings. He is the second Indian batter to do so after Ashish Nehra achieved the same embarrassing feat in 2009.
Ashish Nehra (IND) in 2009
Roger Mukasa (UGA) in 2024
Abhishek Sharma (IND) in 2026
Abhishek Sharma’s poor form has now become a big concern for the Indian camp, as the Super Eights stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is about to begin. It would be interesting to see how Abhishek responds to this challenge, as the pressure and competitiveness are only set to increase in the upcoming matches.
