India's victory sends them into the gold-medal match, where they will face Pakistan on October 3.

Ishan Kishan Leads India To 169

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl first, but India made a fast start through Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

The young batter struck 38 from 21 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 180.95. He was eventually dismissed by Sahan Arachchige with India 59/3.

India then lost wickets at regular intervals. Abhishek Sharma made seven from three balls, Sanju Samson scored seven, while captain Shreyas Iyer contributed 13.

With India needing a strong finish, Ishan Kishan took control.

Kishan remained unbeaten on 80 from 46 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes. His strike rate of 173.91 helped India recover from a middle-order wobble and reach 169/7 from their 20 overs.

Washington Sundar added seven not out from three balls, including a six, to give India further momentum at the end.

Sri Lanka Collapse For 45

Sri Lanka's chase started disastrously.

Sineth Jayawardena was dismissed lbw by Jasprit Bumrah for a duck in the third ball of the innings. Sohan de Livera followed shortly after, before Lasith Croospulle was run out.

Sri Lanka slipped to 18/5 inside the fourth over, leaving the chase effectively out of reach.

Nuwanidu Fernando briefly offered resistance with 15 from 11 balls, but he was run out by Axar Patel. Sahan Arachchige scored nine before falling to Axar, while the rest of the batting order struggled against India's attack.

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for just 45 in 9.5 overs, giving India a massive 124-run victory.

Bumrah, Axar and Abhishek Sharma Destroy Sri Lanka's Chase

India's bowling attack shared the wickets around.

Jasprit Bumrah finished with 2/7 from two overs, while Axar Patel claimed 2/8 from three overs. Abhishek Sharma also picked up two wickets in just five deliveries, conceding only two runs.

Washington Sundar took one wicket from his three overs, while Ravi Bishnoi completed his spell without a wicket.

The Indian bowlers also benefited from three Sri Lankan run-outs, with India keeping constant pressure on the batting side.

India vs Sri Lanka Semi-Final Highlights as India Reach Asian Games Final

The Asian Games Men’s T20I competition reaches its semi-final stage as India face Sri Lanka at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin. The match is scheduled for tomorrow, with play beginning at 9:30 AM Pakistan time.

India enter the semi-final as the defending Asian Games champions after winning the gold medal at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. Sri Lanka have also reached the last four, but neither team completed its quarter-final because of persistent rain.

India were due to play Afghanistan, while Sri Lanka were scheduled to meet Nepal. Both matches were abandoned, with the higher-ranked teams progressing to the semi-finals.

India vs Sri Lanka Preview

India have reached the semi-finals without playing a knockout match in this year's competition. Their quarter-final against Afghanistan was washed out, allowing India to progress on the basis of their higher ICC T20I ranking.

Despite the lack of knockout action, India have considerable T20 experience in their squad. Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Jasprit Bumrah give India options across both departments.

Abhishek Sharma can provide an aggressive start at the top of the order, while Iyer and Tilak Varma add stroke-making ability through the middle. Samson and Ishan Kishan also give India wicketkeeping and batting depth.

India's bowling attack features several different options. Jasprit Bumrah brings international experience with the new and old ball, while Arshdeep Singh provides left-arm pace. Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Ravi Bishnoi add spin options.

Sri Lanka also advanced to the semi-finals without completing their quarter-final. Their match against Nepal was abandoned because of rain, with Sri Lanka progressing as the higher-ranked side.

Sahan Arachchige leads a squad featuring Niroshan Dickwella, Ashen Bandara, Nuwanidu Fernando and Chamika Karunaratne. Their bowling group includes Nuwan Thushara, Binura Fernando, Dushan Hemantha and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth.

Sri Lanka's bowling variety could be important against India's deep batting lineup. Thushara and Binura Fernando offer pace from different angles, while Viyaskanth and Hemantha provide spin options.

India vs Sri Lanka Head-to-Head

India and Sri Lanka have a long history of competitive cricket across international formats, including T20Is. Their meetings have regularly featured experienced players and contrasting bowling approaches.

This Asian Games semi-final brings the two sides together with a place in the gold-medal match at stake. India will enter with several established T20 players, while Sri Lanka will look to their bowling attack and experienced campaigners to challenge India's batting depth.

India vs Sri Lanka Key Player Battles

India's Batting vs Sri Lanka's Bowling

India have several attacking options throughout their batting order. Abhishek Sharma can put pressure on the bowling attack early, while Iyer, Tilak and Samson provide further stroke-making ability.

Sri Lanka will need their seamers and spinners to find ways of slowing India's scoring rate and creating early wickets.

Sri Lanka's Batting vs India's Bowling

Sri Lanka face a major challenge against an India attack that includes Bumrah, Arshdeep, Axar, Washington and Bishnoi.

Bumrah's pace and experience could be particularly important in the powerplay and at the death, while India's spin options could be useful if the surface assists slower bowlers.

Spin Options

Both teams have multiple spin choices. India can turn to Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi and Abhishek Sharma, while Sri Lanka have Viyaskanth, Hemantha and Arachchige among their options.

The middle overs could therefore become an important phase of the semi-final.

Weather Could Shape the Semi-Final

Rain has already washed out all four quarter-finals, with India and Sri Lanka advancing without playing. Weather could again play a major role in the semi-final, while a washed-out final without a reserve day would see both finalists share the gold medal.

India vs Sri Lanka Recent Form

India come into the semi-final with five consecutive wins in their last five completed T20Is, while Sri Lanka's recent record reads four defeats followed by a win.

What to Expect

The semi-final pits India’s experienced T20 squad against a Sri Lankan side with a varied bowling attack. India have strong batting depth, while Sri Lanka can challenge them with pace and spin. If rain shortens the game, powerplay execution and adaptability could prove important.

India vs Sri Lanka Asian Games Semi-Final Preview and Key Players

India’s spinners struggled to make a big impact during the second Test, managing just four lbw decisions and two bowled dismissals. With time running out and rain continuing to cause problems, India’s hopes of completing a 2-0 series win in Sri Lanka became difficult.

The visitors eventually finished with a 1-0 series victory despite choosing to enforce the follow-on. Gill said he was comfortable with that decision, as it looked the best option to him. According to the India captain, they made the call without knowing whether the conditions would allow a full final day of play, especially after rain had already interrupted the series several times.

"They played quite well. Generally on days four and five, it doesn't happen that lbw and bowled are completely out of the game. The balls that turned, they turned slowly and bounced quite high. So if batters are playing defensively, there is only mode of dismissal left: catches around the wicket.” said Indian captain Shubman Gill.

"In such a situation, we attacked a lot, but we were also under a little bit of pressure. Then we had to pull them back a little. But I think the pitch just kept getting slower. It is not as though the ball didn't turn, but the wickets were not in play at all. As a batter when you know these two modes of dismissals are not in play, batting gets a little easier especially when you are not looking to score runs.” added Shubman Gill.

Gill then said that if they have gotten one or two wickets, the results could have been different. However, he also applauded the grit of the hosts, saying they played really well under pressure.

"We tried our best. They also played really well. It is not as though the pitch was totally flat. So they deserve the credit for playing really well. On day four we created chances and momentum; if we could have got one or more wickets then maybe the result would have been different." said Shubman Gill.

When asked whether the decision to enforce the follow-on backfired, Gill simply dismissed the idea, saying the team made the decision based on the given conditions.

"I wouldn't say it has backfired here. We lost about 70 overs on the first four days so we had to keep that in mind. We didn't know how much cricket there would be on days four and five. And we wanted to take that chance.” said Shubman Gill.

“The question was, should we wait for one-and-a-half sessions on day four and set them about 400 or should we make them follow on and chase down 100 or so if needed? We felt more comfortable in chasing down because then you can do it according to the time left.” added Shubman Gill.

Shubman Gill backed his decision to enforce the follow-on against Sri Lanka in the second Test. He said it seemed like the right call given the weather conditions in Colombo.

Shubman Gill Insists India Made The Right Follow-On Call Against Sri Lanka

COLOMBO: In a thrilling finish, the SL vs IND 2nd Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club ended in a gripping draw on Thursday. Despite enforcing the follow-on, India’s star-studded bowling attack fell just short of a series sweep. Sri Lanka's resilient lower-order mounted a heroic fifth-day defiance. Consequently, the high-stakes SL vs IND 2nd Test ended in a draw, allowing India to secure the two-match series 1–0 following their dominant win in Galle.

Dinusha’s Twin Tons Save Sri Lanka

The final day belonged to Sri Lankan all-rounder Sonal Dinusha, who emerged as the ultimate roadblock for Shubman Gill’s men. Walking into bat on Day 5 with the hosts staring at an innings defeat, Dinusha produced a masterclass in defensive batting. He anchored the innings with a brilliant, unbeaten 133 off 264 balls. This followed his crucial first-innings century (103), making him the third Sri Lankan batsman to score twin centuries after enforcing a follow-on.

Dinusha found able allies in Pasindu Sooriyabandara (92) and Kamindu Mendis (55), who safely guided Sri Lanka to a commanding second-innings total of 429/9 before hands were shaken.

Indian Bowlers Toil Amid Injury Woes

India's spinners threw everything at the Lankan batting lineup on a deteriorating track. Left-arm spinner Manav Suthar was the pick of the bowlers across both innings, claiming three scalps in the second innings alongside veteran Ravindra Jadeja (3/94). However, India’s push for victory was severely crippled by a double injury blow. Pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj was sidelined with a rib injury sustained on Day 4, while Jadeja limped off mid-over on the final afternoon with a suspected heel issue. The depleted attack struggled to find the final breakthrough, as Sri Lanka’s tail successfully blocked out the remaining overs.

Dominant Start for Team India

Earlier in the match, India looked firmly in control after posting a mammoth first-innings total of 503/9 declared. Dynamic centuries from middle-order batsman Devdutt Padikkal (117) and wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel (115)* laid a massive foundation. Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando was the lone shining light with the ball, picking up figures of 4/106.

In reply, Sri Lanka collapsed to 290 all out in their first innings. Indian speedster Prasidh Krishna rocked the top order with sharp bounce, leaving Dinusha to wage a lonely battle. Sensing a clean sweep, India promptly enforced the follow-on, a tactical decision that ultimately set up a classic Test cricket marathon.

World Test Championship Implications

While India hoists the series trophy, the draw at Colombo serves as a major setback to their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) campaign. The dropped points significantly narrow India's margin for error ahead of their upcoming overseas assignments, leaving the race to the Lord's final wide open. Unsurprisingly, Sonal Dinusha was named Player of the Match for his match-saving batting display, whereas Devdutt Padikkal named player of the series.

The SL vs IND 2nd Test ended in a draw as Sonal Dinusha's heroic second-innings century thwarted India's bowling attack to secure Sri Lanka's escape in Colombo.

SL vs IND 2nd Test Ended in a Draw: Sri Lanka Defy India

Sri Lanka have put India under serious pressure on the fifth day of the second Test in Colombo, reaching 353/7 in their second innings and moving 140 runs ahead.

Sonal Dinusha has been the key figure in the resistance. The left-hander remained unbeaten on 76 from 146 balls, having spent a long stretch at the crease while India struggled to break through the lower middle order. His innings includes five boundaries and has come at a time when Sri Lanka simply needed someone to stay put.

Prabath Jayasuriya was alongside him on 0 from 25 balls at the latest update, with Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando still waiting to bat.

India started the match in control after winning the toss and choosing to bat, eventually declaring on 503/9. Sri Lanka replied with 290 in their first innings, leaving India with the advantage and the chance to push for a result.

That plan has become far less straightforward.

Sri Lanka's second innings has featured several useful contributions. Pasindu Sooriyabandara made 92 from 173 balls before Manav Suthar removed him, while Kamindu Mendis added 55 from 92 deliveries. Keshara Nuwantha then held his ground for 46 off 150 balls, soaking up valuable time before falling to Suthar.

Manav Suthar has been India's most successful bowler in the innings, taking three wickets for 104 runs from 33 overs. Saransh Jain and Ravindra Jadeja have one wicket each, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna have also struck once.

Siraj has been particularly economical, conceding only 24 runs from 12 overs and picking up one wicket. His spell has kept Sri Lanka from accelerating freely, but India still need wickets quickly if they are to create a realistic opening.

The India vs Sri Lanka 2nd test has now moved into a fascinating final stretch. With Sri Lanka seven wickets down but already holding a 140-run lead, the visitors need to clean up the innings before the target becomes too demanding.

The equation is simple, even if the task is not. India need the remaining three wickets and then must chase whatever Sri Lanka leave them.

At the other end, Dinusha has shown little sign of giving his wicket away. Every additional run makes India's job harder, and the clock is becoming just as important as the scoreboard.

For fans following India vs Sri Lanka live, the final passage in Colombo could decide whether India complete a series sweep or Sri Lanka force a result-saving draw.

Sri Lanka reach 353/7 against India on Day 5 as Sonal Dinusha stays unbeaten on 76, leaving India facing a tense finish in Colombo.

India Struggle to Force Win as Sri Lanka Extend Lead on Day Five

Sri Lanka managed to stay alive in the second Test against India after Kamindu Mendis and Pasindu Sooriyabandara hit important half-centuries on Wednesday. Their efforts helped the hosts avoid an innings defeat and move into a narrow lead on the fourth day at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) Stadium.

Sri Lanka finished Day 4 on 229/6, giving them a 16-run advantage. Sonal Dinusha, who had scored a century earlier in the match, remained unbeaten on seven. He was joined by all-rounder Keshara Nuwantha, who was on three at the close of play.

The day started with Sri Lanka resuming their first innings at 265/8, with Dinusha and Lahiru Kumara continuing their partnership.

Sonal Dinusha continued to lead Sri Lanka’s fightback after playing a key role on the third day. He reached his second Test century in the first session, but Sri Lanka still ended up 200 runs behind. Saransh Jain then removed both overnight batters, bringing Sri Lanka’s first innings to an end at 290 in 89.4 overs.

Dinusha was Sri Lanka’s top scorer, making 103 from 162 balls. His innings included eight fours and three sixes.

Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar were India’s leading wicket-takers, taking three wickets each. Saransh Jain picked up two, while Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket apiece.

India had a 213-run lead after the first innings, so captain Shubman Gill decided to enforce the follow-on. Sri Lanka were sent back in to bat as India looked to finish the match, which had already lost a lot of playing time because of rain.

Sri Lanka did not have the best start to their second innings, losing both openers inside the first 15 overs. Lahiru Udara was dismissed for three, while Kamil Mishara made 32 as Sri Lanka slipped to 63/2.

Kamindu Mendis then came in and joined Pasindu Sooriyabandara at the crease. The two batters steadied the innings and put together a 115-run stand. Both Mendis and Sooriyabandara reached their half-centuries during the partnership.

After the dismissal of Mendis, Sooriyabandara added 31 runs with captain Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored 23. However, India struck again as both batters were dismissed in quick succession.

Dinusha and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella added only six runs for the sixth wicket before Saransh Jain dismissed Dickwella for seven. Despite the quick dismissal, Sri Lanka managed to move into the lead.

Keshara Nuwantha then joined Dinusha at the crease. The pair played carefully and added an unbeaten 11 runs for the seventh wicket. Their stand helped Sri Lanka avoid any more damage before the close of play and take their narrow lead into the final day.

Kamindu Mendis and Pasindu Sooriyabandara hit half-centuries as Sri Lanka avoided an innings defeat and took a 16-run lead against India in the second Test.

Mendis, Sooriyabandara Put Sri Lanka Ahead After India Enforce Follow-On

India have put themselves in a commanding position in the second Test after enforcing the follow-on against Sri Lanka on Day 4.

The visitors declared their first innings at 503/9 before Sri Lanka were dismissed for 290. With a first-innings deficit of 213, Sri Lanka were sent straight back in and reached 85/2 by the second session.

The equation remains heavily tilted towards India. Sri Lanka still need 128 runs just to make India bat again, while eight wickets remain for the hosts to claim. India's live win probability stands at 80%, with Sri Lanka given only a 2% chance and an 18% possibility of a draw.

India's decision to bat first after winning the toss has worked out well. Their huge first-innings total put Sri Lanka under pressure from the start, and the follow-on has now left the home side with a long fourth-innings challenge ahead.

Sri Lanka need a big partnership

Pasindu Sooriyabandara has provided some resistance, reaching an unbeaten 35 from 54 balls. He has struck four boundaries and is currently batting alongside Kamindu Mendis, who is unbeaten on 12 from 32 deliveries.

Sri Lanka's innings suffered two early setbacks. Lahiru Udara fell for three after 15 balls, caught by Saransh Jain off Mohammed Siraj. Kamil Mishara then departed for 32, trapped lbw by Ravindra Jadeja.

That left Sri Lanka 63/2, but Sooriyabandara and Mendis have steadied things since then.

India's bowlers have kept the scoring under control. Jadeja has taken one wicket for 14 runs from six overs, while Siraj has produced one wicket for seven runs from three overs. Prasidh Krishna has been equally economical, conceding only seven runs in four overs.

The pressure is obvious. Sri Lanka cannot afford another cluster of wickets, especially with Dhananjaya de Silva, Niroshan Dickwella and the rest of the lower order still waiting to bat.

India vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Day 4 as Hosts Move Closer to Victory

India bowling coach Morne Morkel said the team could choose to enforce the follow-on against Sri Lanka in the second Test in Colombo if the situation allows. Such a move would go against the recent trend, but India will also have to consider the weather, with only 222 overs completed in the first three days.

Sri Lanka finished day three needing 39 more runs to avoid the follow-on. Sonal Dinusha, who has been their top batter in the series, was unbeaten on 85 and was involved in a ninth-wicket partnership that had already lasted more than 15 overs. India, meanwhile, had the second new ball, which was only 3.2 overs old and was creating more chances than the older, softer ball.

"That will be the first prize… that we can get those two wickets tomorrow early. I know it's a cliche thing, but you know, with the weather around and sometimes the time it takes with taking the covers on and off, we want to try and get as many overs as possible to the Sri Lankans.” said India bowling coach Morne Morkel.

“So hopefully, we can get those wickets tomorrow and then be brave, put them in, and bowl well." added Morne Morkel.

Morkel further said that India understands how tough bowling could become, especially when the ball goes soft. So, they will keep every factor in mind before making any decision on the fourth day of the second Test.

"It is hard work out there, you know. I think sometimes even us, we get sucked in that expectation where we think it looks slightly dry and we need to bowl teams out for under 200. But unfortunately, at times it's not gonna work like that. It's tough conditions; it's hot, hot conditions. The ball goes soft quite quickly.” said Morne Morkel.

"As the boys walked in there tonight, I said to them it is a proper day of Test cricket, and this is how we're gonna learn. This is how we're gonna grow. We always talk about bowling in partnerships, about creating pressure, and this is how you develop it - on days like today, when there's a batting partnership going [on]. You can break it. The key is to define that breakthrough, and then how well can you start your next thing." added Morne Morkel.

Morne Morkel has not ruled out India enforcing the follow-on against Sri Lanka in the second Test, with rain and bowling conditions likely to influence the decision.

Morkel Hints India Could Enforce Follow-On Despite Rain Forecast

Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar picked up three wickets each as India continued to stay in control of the second Test against Sri Lanka. The hosts, however, got some resistance from Sonal Dinusha, who remained unbeaten on a half-century on day three of the second Test.

Sri Lanka ended the day at 265/8, still 238 runs behind India. Dinusha was unbeaten on 85, while Lahiru Kumara was not out on eight at the close of play.

Sri Lanka began the third day at 8/2 in reply to India’s 503/9 declared. They soon suffered another blow when Prasidh Krishna dismissed Kamil Mishara for 19, with the batter caught behind in the seventh over of the day.

Kamindu Mendis and Pasindu Sooriyabandara then settled down and added 87 runs for the fourth wicket. Their partnership came to an end near the close of the first session when Ravindra Jadeja bowled Mendis.

Mendis was among Sri Lanka’s notable batters in the innings, scoring 32 runs off 58 balls. His wicket opened the door for India, as Sri Lanka quickly lost three more wickets, including Sooriyabandara. Due to this, the hosts soon found themselves in trouble at 173/7.

After losing a number of wickets, Dinusha took charge and helped Sri Lanka recover. He added 57 runs for the eighth wicket with Keshara Nuwantha, who scored a useful 18 off 74 balls.

Dinusha then teamed up with Lahiru Kumara, and the pair played carefully towards the end of the day. They added an unbeaten 35 runs for the ninth wicket, giving Sri Lanka some relief and leaving India frustrated.

For India, Manav Suthar and Prasidh Krishna have been the main wicket-takers, with both bowlers claiming three wickets each. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja also took one wicket each to keep the visitors in a strong position.

Sri Lanka will now aim to add more runs on the morning of day four of the second Test. They are still trailing by 238 runs, which means India are in a comfortable position to dominate the home side.

India stayed in control of the second Test against Sri Lanka as Prasidh Krishna and Manav Suthar took three wickets each, leaving the hosts 238 runs behind.
