All-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been confirmed as South Africa’s captain for the second Test against Zimbabwe, taking over following Keshav Maharaj’s withdrawal due to a groin injury, Cricket South Africa announced today. South Africa are looking to seal the series 2–0.

Keshav Maharaj, who led the side to a 328-run victory in the first Test, has been sidelined with a left groin strain and is unable to take part in the remainder of the series.

Senuran Muthusamy has been called into the squad as a replacement, while seamer Lungi Ngidi’s previously expected return was postponed.

Wiaan Mulder, an experienced all-rounder, steps up in his first leadership role. He drew praise for his elevated performance during the first Test, playing a part in the series-opening win.

Mulder becomes part of a youth-driven setup, with several other World Test Championship final participants taking a break for workload management.

With a dominant 328-run win in Test 1, South Africa remains on track for a 2–0 series sweep. New captain Mulder’s task: rally the young squad to maintain intensity against a spirited Zimbabwe side.

Zimbabwe will aim to capitalize on home conditions and unsettle the Proteas' less experienced leaders. Mulder’s fresh tactics and on-field decisions will be crucial early on.

Wiaan Mulder’s elevation to captain marks an unexpected leadership shift for South Africa. As they aim to complete the series sweep in Bulawayo, all eyes will be on Mulder’s debut leadership under pressure. It’s a test not just of skills—but of composure and strategy at the crease.
