Cricket West Indies (CWI) has reaffirmed its commitment to the scheduled ODI leg of the upcoming Pakistan tour, resisting efforts from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to switch all white-ball matches to T20Is.

CWI CEO Chris Dehring confirmed the boards are “engaging,” but made it clear: “The schedule remains as it is, and we continue to engage with the PCB on the matter.”

The dispute stems from the PCB’s formal request to replace the originally planned three-match ODI series with additional T20Is. Pakistan is pressing this change to better prepare for the 2025 Asia Cup and 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, both in the T20 format.

However, CWI strongly values the ODI series, viewing 50-over cricket as vital to rebuilding its squad after missing the 2023 ODI World Cup. As Dehring highlighted, securing ODI match practice against strong sides is essential for improvement.

Ticket sales for both formats have already begun, T20I matches in Lauderhill, Florida (July 31, August 2, 4) and ODIs in Trinidad (August 8, 10, 12). This confirms CWI’s intention to keep the full schedule intact.

PCB sources meanwhile have reportedly warned that the ODI leg could be canceled if CWI stays firm. India ranking implications are at play. Pakistan currently sits fourth in ODIs, while West Indies are eighth, fighting for a place in the 2027 World Cup auto-qualification.
