The excitement in the run-up to the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash in the Asia Cup 2025 has reached new heights as cricket pundits have also chimed in on what might outline the game. Former cricketer Bazid Khan says India will sorely miss contemporary giants Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who have retired from T20 international after winning the 2024 World Cup.

Bazid argued that though the present Indian side is a pool of talent, the fire and competitive spirit infused by Rohit and Kohli on the biggest stage will prove difficult to find in the new Indian team.

“All the players in this team are first-rate, but the Vernacular and aura that Virat and Rohit took in the game of India-Pak became so memorable. That fervour not only raised that team, but that event.”

The central spotlight is now on Suryakumar Yadav, who will be leading India in a big tournament for the first time. His T20I statistics are phenomenal, averaging 38.20 with a strike rate of over 167, but against Pakistan, his numbers do not look good either. He has scored only 64 runs in 5 innings with an average of 12.80 and has not been able to dominate against Pakistan pacemen.

Bazid cited this incongruity as a potential decisive force in what will be an awaited face-off on September 14.

“Suryakumar scores against all teams, but as far as Pakistan is concerned, he has been his bane. It doesn’t matter whether they are bowling to me or whether it is the pressure of the rivalry, he has not yet found the key to get past me”.

The competition, the Asia Cup 2025, starts on September 9, as India is in Group A with Pakistan, hosts the UAE, and Oman. Their World Cup starts on September 10 against the UAE, and four days later, they play the Pakistani team, in what is anticipated to be a big match.

It is now up to a new generation to preserve the tradition of Team India, and all the attention will be drawn towards Yadav Suryakumar as the player who will take over the legacy of Team India and do the most to preserve the legacy.
