In the history of Major League Soccer, we are witnessing one of the biggest transfer news in recent history. German football icon Thomas Müller has signed with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. As Muller concludes his illustrious 25-year tenure at Bayern Munich, he joins the Canadian side for the remainder of the 2025 season. The club retained the option to extend his stay into 2026 as a Designated Player.

Muller has an esteemed career at Bayern Munich, Müller winning 13 Bundesliga titles, 2 UEFA Champions League trophies, and accumulated 250 goals and 276 assists over 756 appearances.

In an international setting, he earned 131 caps for Germany, netting 45 goals and playing a pivotal role in the 2014 World Cup victory.

The transfer is viewed by Vancouver’s hierarchy as a “transformative moment” for the club, with Whitecaps CEO Axel Schuster praising Müller’s heritage of leadership, intelligence, and relentless work ethic.

Vancouver acquired Müller’s Discovery Priority from FC Cincinnati, paying $300,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for 2025 and 2026, plus a conditional $100,000. Media coverage brands the signing as the biggest in Whitecaps history, noting its immense significance for both club stature and MLS visibility.

Müller arrived in Vancouver mid-August, is expected to debut around 17 August, and aims to ignite a postseason push.
