Surrey made an emphatic start to their County Championship Division One match, bowling out Worcestershire for 209 on the first day at New Road, Worcester.

Sent in to bat, Worcestershire stumbled early as debutant Shoaib Bashir picked up a wicket, supported by a disciplined bowling attack that repeatedly struck the top order. By lunch, the hosts were reeling, unable to settle due to swinging deliveries and accurate seam movement .

Jordan Clark and Matt Fisher were instrumental, both capturing three wickets to dismantle the top and middle order. Tom Taylor, debuting for Worcestershire, also impressed briefly with a wicket, but couldn’t stem the flow of runs .

The innings folded early in the evening session as Surrey showcased their pace dominance, just hours after a moment of silence in tribute to former fast bowler David Lawrence.

Local fans were visibly impressed. One supporter noted in The Times: “Surrey's seam movement was too good today. The perfect start for the champions.”

Surrey will begin their innings late on day one, aiming to build a substantial lead, while Worcestershire must regroup to avoid a swift collapse. The teams will be back at New Road tomorrow to continue this pivotal clash in the early season standings.

A disciplined bowling performance and incisive use of conditions gave Surrey full control on day one, setting the stage for what could be a dominant performance in Division One. With Worcestershire struggling to reach 200, the hosts are under early pressure.
