Sri Lanka’s spinners Dhananjaya de Silva and Prabath Jayasuriya took centre stage once again in the second Test, claiming two wickets each as Bangladesh limped to 115‑6, still 96 runs adrift of Sri Lanka’s imposing first-innings total of 458 at the Sinhalese Sports Club .

After Kusal Mendis’ aggressive 84 propelled Sri Lanka past 450, Bangladesh resumed their chase under a daunting 211-run deficit. But the surface offered sharp turn, and both de Silva and Jayasuriya exploited it fully. De Silva dismissed Mominul Haque and Najmul Hossain Shanto, while Jayasuriya removed Shadman Islam and Mushfiqur Rahim, leaving Bangladesh's top order bleeding.

Kamindu Mendis highlighted the deteriorating conditions, according to Dawn, saying: “The wicket is spinning now from both ends and it’s not easy for the batters. We will look to wrap this up quickly.”

Seven Bangladesh batters reached double figures, but only Mushfiqur crossed 20 before Jayasuriya bowled him for 26. With just four wickets remaining and nearly a hundred runs still required, Sri Lanka look poised to enforce the follow-on and claim an innings victory.

A win here would seal the two-match series following an earlier draw, boosting Sri Lanka’s World Test Championship standing. Bangladesh’s fragile batting has been exposed in both Tests, intensifying pressure ahead of the final stretch.

Sri Lanka’s spinners have the upper hand in Colombo, with Bangladesh's tail needed to deliver a miracle. Sri Lanka aim to wrap up the Test and series on day four, underlining the significance of spin dominance on turning wickets.
