Sourav Ganguly is returning as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The former India captain has filed his nomination and, with no other candidates, will succeed his elder brother Snehasish Ganguly.

In a statement, Ganguly thanked members for their support and called for unity. “At CAB, there is no opposition. Everyone is part of the same team. We will all work together to take CAB and Bengal cricket ahead.”

It will be the second time Ganguly serves CAB, as he served as the president between 2015 and 2019. In 2019, he re-emerged as BCCI president and continues to be operational in the T20 franchise circuit across the globe.

Most recently, Ganguly was appointed head coach of the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 league and was seen at the player auction last week. Though this is his first coaching role with a T20 franchise, he previously worked as mentor of Delhi Capitals in the IPL in 2019. He has also been director of cricket at JSW Sports, co-owners of the Delhi Capitals teams worldwide, contributing to both men’s and women’s squads.

It remains to be seen how his new responsibilities at CAB will balance with his ongoing coaching and mentorship roles, but for Bengal cricket, Sourav Ganguly’s return promises continuity and strong leadership.
