Bayern Munich have reached an agreement with Liverpool to sign winger Luis Díaz in a deal worth up to €75 million (£65.5 million), including add-ons. Díaz has been granted permission to leave Liverpool’s pre-season camp in Asia to travel to Germany for his medical and contract finalization.

Díaz, 28, made his mark at Liverpool since joining from Porto in January 2022. Last season alone, he made 50 appearances, scoring 17 goals and contributing consistently across competitions.

Why It Matters

  • Transfer saga resolved: Bayern’s improved second bid met Liverpool's valuation after an earlier €67.5m offer was rejected.

  • Mutual interest: Díaz reportedly first expressed a desire to leave in summer 2024, as contract talks with Liverpool stalled amid rising demands.

  • Strategic boost for Bayern: The signing addresses Bayern’s attacking void following Jamal Musiala’s long-term injury and offers reinforcement on the left flank.

Club Reflections

  • Liverpool: The mega-fee eases pressure from heavy summer recruitment (£250–290m spent), helping balance finances amid further possible departures—rising sales now surpass £190m under sporting director Richard Hughes.

  • Bayern: Díaz is expected to sign a four-year contract (with option for a fifth), reportedly earning around €14 million per season net—a major step up from his wages at Liverpool.

What’s Ahead

Díaz is expected to fly to Munich imminently to undergo his medical. If all goes according to plan, he could feature in Bayern’s upcoming pre-season match against Olympique Lyon.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are now targeting replacements—Newcastle’s Alexander Isak remains a priority, alongside internal options like Hugo Ekitike and promising winger Malick Fofana.
