Bollywood superstar and Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan has made headlines by drafting two Pakistani cricketers. Reports say Mohammad Amir and Usman Tariq are potentially being signed into his Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) squad for the upcoming 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

  • Mohammad Amir, the left-arm fast bowler with extensive CPL experience, has taken 51 wickets in 39 matches, making him a seasoned T20 campaigner.

  • Usman Tariq, a talent off-spinner who made an impressive debut in PSL 2025, took 10 wickets in five matches, will be making his CPL debut this season.

Such picks are in the wake of continuing political tensions- although Pakistani players are still banned in IPL, they could still be signed by other teams, such as TKR, in other leagues.

What does this mean for TKR?

  • Bowling strengthening: Amir brings experience to the table in the form of death-bowling expertise; Tariq enhances the spin area.

  • Talent pipeline: The presence of Tariq points to the fact that TKR is confident in working with emerging talent.

  • Franchise inclusion: SRK's overseas venture-KKR, LA Knight Riders, and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders- now accommodate Pakistani actors with an international outlook.

Shah Rukh Khan is making a bold statement in the CPL as he drafted Mohammad Amir and Usman Tariq into the Trinbago Knight Riders, and in the process, showing the potential of cricket to unify. Such signings are already making huge inroads into the fanbase and look like bringing much firepower to the TKR bowling attack during this season.
