The former Indian team captain Rohit Sharma recently retired from test cricket and Sharma came forward to offer insight into his decision. Sharma noted that the demanding nature of the format is a key factor for his retirement.

Sharma discussed his struggles with the test cricket format and how mentally and physically draining it got for him as well as other players. He did however note that preparation played a key role in curbing this exhaustion and training ahead of time was essential in keeping the intensity and longevity of the player in this format.

When talking about how he chose test cricket as his main format, he talked about the start of his career where he took part in Mumbai’s test cricket circuit. He said that going through that circuit in the initial parts of his career allowed him to build the endurance necessary to take his career forward. Rohit formally announced his retirement in May 2025, concluding his Test career spanning 67 matches, 4,301 runs, and 12 centuries at an average of 40.57.
