Rishabh Pant has made a comeback in the Indian test squad for the upcoming South Africa series. He has been picked after performing strongly against South Africa A in a four-day game at the BCCI Centre of Excellence last week. It was a crucial match for him in which he led the side and defeated South Africa A by playing a superb knock of 90 runs in the second innings.
By proving his match fitness in the last game, Pant was all cleared to get the call for the upcoming South Africa series. He will now replace N Jagadeesan in the test squad, who is also a very promising wicketkeeper-batter for India.
Rishabh Pant last played in England where he suffered a severe foot fracture while keeping the wickets in the fourth test. He was taken off the field immediately during the match, as the later assessment of the foot revealed a serious injury.
Alongside Rishabh Pant, Akash Deep also made a comeback to the test squad by replacing Prasidh Krishna. Akash missed the West Indies tests due to recovering from a back injury, however, he has now regained his fitness to get selected again in the side.
Speaking about the other test stars, Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are all currently playing in the T20I series against Australia. They will head back home once the series concludes on November 8, after which they will join the test squad in Kolkata.
The test series between India and South Africa is slated to start from November 14. The first test will be played in Kolkata, while the second one will be played in Guwahati from November 22.
