Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the IPL on 27 August 2025, bringing an end to his 16-season journey in the world’s most popular T20 league. While closing up his career in the IPL he has stated that he will be open to continuing his cricket career in overseas leagues.

Ashwin played 221 IPL matches, with an astounding 187 wickets and ending as the fifth-highest wicket-taker in IPL history. He started and ended his career with Chennai Super Kings. He had also represented Pune, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Punjab in his career as well.

On social media, Ashwin reflected: “They say every ending will have a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today. I look forward to enjoying and making the most of what’s ahead of me.”

Notably, one final highlight from his IPL departure story was his dismissal of 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi during his final match, symbolic of generational change and enduring mastery.
