Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan has urged fans to exercise moderation when his team plays Pakistan in the inaugural match of the tri-series at Sharjah. His words are not pinned lightly because the memories of the fiery encounter between the two teams at the same venue are still fresh when the match concluded in chaos off the field, yet Pakistan scored a dramatic one-wicket victory.

At that time, things became heated in the stands. Fights broke out among fans, and PCB had to complain to the ICC as local police stepped in. There were no arrests, but the scenes tainted what had been a sensational competition.

Organizers have gone to an extra measure to keep things calm this time, and certain areas are reserved exclusively by fans of both countries, and the security levels are high near the ground. The game should be a full house with high passion in support of Pakistan and Afghanistan in the UAE.

Rashid, however, reminded supporters that cricket is meant to unite. “Cricket brings people and nations together. It is about joy and entertainment. I ask fans to support their teams and enjoy every moment,” he said.

Pakistan will compete with Afghanistan on Friday and then the UAE on Monday, and the last match will be on September 7. Fans should expect a high intensity in the field with the short format having very little room to spare, but Rashid is hoping that the stands will tell a different story this time around.

Rashid’s call for calm shows how important this clash is for cricket. Watch the Pakistan–Afghanistan showdown live only on tapmad.
