Fatima Sana Set To Play For Perth Scorchers in WBBL 2026-27

Perth Scorchers have added Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana to their squad for the 2026-27 WBBL season, with the tournament scheduled to get underway on October 29.

The Pakistan all-rounder is expected to feature in the Scorchers’ first eight games, although her stint could last longer if she is allowed to miss a training camp before Pakistan’s West Indies tour.

The dates for the West Indies series have not been confirmed by CWI yet. However, the tour is likely to begin in the second week of December.

Speaking about the opportunity to play in the WBBL, Fatima Sana said she is honored to represent the Perth Scorchers, which has a great legacy and history in Australian cricket.

"I've watched the WBBL from Pakistan and always wondered what it would feel like to be part of this great competition. To now wear the Scorchers colors, represent such a great club and walk out at the WACA Ground in front of members and fans, while being cheered on by people back home, is incredibly special. This really is a dream come true." said Fatima Sana.

Fatima Sana will become only the second Pakistan player to feature in the WBBL, following Nida Dar, who played 11 games for Sydney Thunder during the 2019 season.

The WBBL will be Sana’s second overseas T20 league in 2026. Earlier this year, she became the first Pakistani woman to play in The Hundred after joining Birmingham Phoenix through the wildcard draft. She was signed for the minimum salary of £15,000 as a replacement for Australia’s Lucy Hamilton.

Sana has also played in the Women’s CPL and New Zealand’s Women’s Super Smash, featuring in the tournaments in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

Notably, Fatima Sana has performed tremendously in international cricket this year. The 24-year-old has scored 540 runs at a strike rate of 149.58 and taken 31 wickets from 20 innings at an economy rate of 7.35. No other Pakistan player has matched her numbers in either department this year.

Fatima Sana took over as Pakistan captain after the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup and has remained in charge since then. At this year’s Women’s T20 World Cup, Sana led all fast bowlers with 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.95. She finished joint-second overall with Sophie Molineux, while N Shree Charani claimed the most wickets with 14.
