On 25th August, Sunday, Bangladesh created history by securing their 1st ever win over arch-rivals Pakistan in Test cricket.

The tourists beat the hosts with 10 wickets on their home ground in Rawalpindi and have taken a 1-0 lead in Pakistan vs Bangladesh two match test series.

Bangladesh needed 30 to win a Test against Pakistan which they did with 10 wickets in hand. Earlier Pakistan were dismissed for 146 in the second innings.

This unprecedented loss has been nothing short of a misery for the Men in Green as they’d never lost to Bangladesh before.

Adding more to the Pakistan team’s grief is ICC heavy fine. The International Cricket Council has imposed a heavy fine on the Pakistan Cricket Team for slow over rate.

The Pakistan team were docked 30% of their match fee and 6 points from the World Test Championship.

This penalty was not only imposed on the host team as Bangladesh also lost 3 points and 15% of the PAK vs BAN 1st test match fee.

Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Panel of Elite Match Referees imposed the sanction after Pakistan were ruled to be six overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, while Bangladesh were three overs short.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over that their team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

Captains Shan Masood of Pakistan and Najmul Hossain Shanto of Bangladesh pleaded guilty to the offenses and accepted the proposed sanctions.

What’s more distressing about this punishment is the fact that it has left Pakistan in the bottom half of the World Test Championship points table.

With 16 points from six Tests and a PCT (percentage of points that decides the standings) of 35, they are currently at the 8th spot, only above the last-ranked West Indies.
