Sharjah – A good batting show by Pakistan was soon to be an uphill task, as the bowlers of Afghanistan battled back excellently to take charge of the Tri-Series 2025 opener at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan got off to a flying start with Sahibzada Farhan smashing 21 off just 10 balls. But once Afghanistan introduced spin, the game shifted dramatically. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman spun a web around Pakistan’s top order, striking at crucial intervals to halt their momentum.

Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, who looked set to stabilize the innings, both fell while trying to break free. Rashid Khan’s sharp turn and control proved too good, while Mohammad Nabi added pressure with his economical spells.

The middle order made some attempts to retaliate, and Mohammad Nawaz, with his bombastic 21 of 11 balls, gave some hope, but the much-needed breakthrough at the death was delivered by Mujeeb, leaving Pakistan in shambles. At the 18th over, Pakistan had already fallen to 156/5, and they were losing wickets when they seemed to be in full swing.

Afghanistan On Top

With Pakistan losing their set batters, Afghanistan’s bowlers have not only tightened the screws but also lifted the energy on the field. The last two overs will be crucial—Pakistan will aim to push past 170, while Afghanistan will look to restrict them below that.

The battle is evenly poised, but right now, Afghanistan hold the upper hand as they eye a strong chase under lights in Sharjah.
