Pakistan secured a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over Japan in the FIH Hockey Nations Cup, held at Kuala Lumpur’s National Stadium. This win keeps Pakistan’s semifinal hopes alive in the eight-team tournament.

According to Dawn.com, the matchup was exhilarating from the starting whistle. The Green Shirts struck first with Ghazanfar Ali slotting it in the back of the net in the opening quarter. Japan was quick to answer back: Kazumasa Matsumoto equalized within a minute.

The onslaught did not end there with Koji Yamasaki pushing Japan ahead, leaving Pakistan 2–1 down at quarter’s end.

The second quarter remained goal-free, with strong defence on both sides. Pakistan, however, regrouped in the third, with vice-captain Waheed Ashraf Rana drawing the scores level at 2–2

Drama peaked in the fourth quarter when Sufyan Khan converted a penalty corner to clinch the lead at 3–2, proving decisive in the 20-minute clash. The team then held firm to the final whistle, celebrating a hard-earned win.
