Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi described the ACC’s annual general meeting held in Dhaka as “fruitful and memorable,” signalling optimism on Asia cricket’s future and the impending announcement of the Asia Cup 2025 format and location.

Naqvi emphasised that all 25 ACC member boards participated, with many joining virtually, and reaffirmed the council's commitment to keeping politics out of cricket administration. “We have decided to work together for the betterment of cricket,” he said.

Regarding the Asia Cup, Naqvi highlighted ongoing consultations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)—especially concerning India-Pakistan dynamics—and told reporters that the tournament schedule and venue will be confirmed soon.

Multiple sources suggest that the United Arab Emirates is the likely host for the September Asia Cup, given historical precedent and political sensitivities. This aligns with recent reporting that India and Pakistan may be placed in the same group of the tournament.

What It All Means

  • UAE as Host Favourite: With bilateral visits impractical for India and Pakistan, the UAE offers neutral ground and logistical flexibility.

  • Crucial BCCI Involvement: India’s virtual attendance at the AGM is seen as a turning point in resolving Asia Cup uncertainties.

  • PCB at Financial Risk: Cancellation of the tournament would likely cause revenue shortfalls, recalling the $10M gain PCB made from hosting the Champions Trophy.

Road Ahead

Naqvi concluded that while the ACC AGM brought clarity and goodwill, the final format, schedule and venue details for Asia Cup 2025 will be announced in the coming days, once all discussions are settled—especially with the BCCI.

As regional boards await a confirmed calendar, analysts anticipate a T20 format Asia Cup in the UAE this September, potentially mirroring the hybrid model of 2023––with India and Pakistan likely to feature in the same group stage.
