Australia’s fast bowler Mitchell Starc is on the cusp of a historic milestone in the ongoing Test series against West Indies. With 387 Test wickets to his name through 97 matches, he needs just 13 more to join Glenn McGrath as the only Australian pacers to reach 400 wickets.

Starc’s consistent performance, with a Test average of 27.49 and 11 five-wicket hauls, has kept him within striking distance of the 400-wicket mark. Achieving this feat would also position him among Australia’s top three all-format wicket-takers, surpassing Brett Lee’s 718 international scalps if he takes nine more wickets

The three-Test series, which began on 25 June in Barbados, is pivotal for Starc. Australia kickstarted with a tight opening spell, where Starc claimed early wickets of Brathwaite and Campbell, reducing West Indies to 57/4 by stumps on day one. If he plays all three Tests, Starc will also equate the milestone of 100 Test caps, making it a career landmark.

On day one in Bridgetown, Starc struck with 2 for 35, helping Australia recover after being bowled out for just 180. He fired in pace and bounce, unsettling West Indies’ top order early. His performance complemented recent notable spells from teammates like Josh Hazlewood (1/11) and Pat Cummins (1/8).

With the Frank Worrell Trophy at stake, the series offers a high-profile platform for Starc's milestone. Australia’s strong pace unit and promising bowling support present ideal conditions. If he maintains his current form, cricket fans may witness him celebrate his 400th wicket by mid-series. Stay tuned for the next Test in Grenada from 3 July, where Starc could secure his place in Australian cricket history.
