Mike Hesson Believes India Squeezed Pakistan Comfortably

Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson believes the Indian bowlers played smart tactics and successfully squeezed the Pakistani batters. According to him, this was the real reason why Pakistan couldn’t do well in the middle overs.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Hesson acknowledged that Pakistan has to play better cricket against the top ranked sides in the cricket world. He said that they were outplayed by India, as batters struggled to execute their plans properly.
"We were outplayed today, I don't think we can hide from that. We didn't bat well enough. We left ourselves probably 20 or 30 [runs] short, and we all know through those middle overs, we got squeezed.” said Hesson after India defeated Pakistan on Sunday.
The Pakistan head coach also acknowledged that his side needs to work more on the batting. He emphasized the importance of executing plans against good bowling attacks that do not offer much room in crunch matches.
“Lots to work on against a good bowling attack, but I was pleased the way the guys fought hard in the field albeit with a score that wasn't enough."
Batting first, Pakistan didn’t start well. The much-hyped Saim Ayub fell on the first bowl, giving Pakistan an early shock in the innings.
Mohammad Haris, who came to bat at 3rd, also fell very cheaply against Bumrah. He got out by trying to slog Bumrah, who was bowling with a steady pace. The wicket was offering good bounce and swing at that time, hence Indian bowlers used that advantage smartly to trouble the Pakistan openers.
Due to this, Pakistan never looked comfortable in the Powerplay. Once the faster bowlers were done, the Indian spinners came to squeeze the inexperienced Pakistan batters. They kept continuous pressure on Pakistan throughout the innings, giving them no extra room to fire big shots freely.
The pressure was so real that Pakistan at one stage were 83 for 7 in the 17th over. However, some late fireworks from Shaheen Afridi allowed Pakistan to put on a modest total of 127 on the board.
Mike Hesson also said that he believes Saim Ayub is a key player for Pakistan. The batter is currently under a lot of criticism from the fans, as he has not been able to perform consistently despite being given multiple chances.
However, Hesson still has a lot of faith in Saim. He believes that the young batter could turn it around and repay the faith shown in him in the upcoming matches.
"Saim is a key player for us, and it's important for any side that we get off to a good start. Four games ago, we were doing quite nicely at the top; we've lost a bit of momentum there, but I certainly have confidence in those two (Saim and Farhan) to turn it around quickly."
Pakistan will now play their next match against the UAE on Wednesday. They need a strong comeback against a spirited UAE, as winning this match will give them plenty of confidence to move away from the India defeat.
