Former England captain Michael Vaughan delivered a humorous jibe at India after their fielders faltered in the first Test at Headingley. Taking a playful dig at India’s performance, Vaughan joked on X:

Just to let you all know I have offered myself to India as a fielding coach .. My academy does a roaring trade .. #ENGvsIND

— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 24, 2025

India dropped a total of seven catches during the match, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal responsible for four of them—including a crucial drop of Ben Duckett on 97, who later went on to score 149 in England's winning chase of 371. Other misfields included drops by Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja, all adding to India’s fielding woes

Vaughan expanded on his cheeky offer in a follow-up comment, pointing out the damage caused by the dropped catches: “If India had fielded anything like they would have had at least a 150 run lead … now they might end up with a deficit.”

His remarks drew mixed reactions from fans, with many praising the joke, while others called for India to tighten their catching.

India’s fielding errors were costly in a match already loaded with dramatic shifts—England produced a record-breaking fourth-innings chase to win by five wickets . Several of the dropped catches came early and shifted momentum, allowing England’s batters to gain a solid foothold.

While the jibe is light-hearted, it highlights a glaring area for improvement in India’s fielding unit. As the series progresses, better fielding could be the difference between India sealing a comeback or slipping further behind. England’s victory was built on aggressive batting, but cleaner fielding could’ve made the margin even wider.
