Lancashire County Cricket Club has issued a formal apology after a Pakistan-supporting fan was escorted out of Old Trafford during the fourth Test between England and India. The club clarified that the removal was not due to the fan’s Pakistan jersey, but rather how he responded to multiple stewarding requests.

The fan, identified as Farooq Nazar, was asked by stewards to cover his Pakistan team shirt—reportedly at the suggestion of stadium ‘control’—as tensions had flared between Indian and Pakistani supporters the previous day. The intention was to avoid further escalation.

Nazar repeatedly refused to comply and allegedly directed unacceptable remarks toward the stewarding team. He was subsequently escorted out by stewards and police.

There was no intent to discriminate based on nationality. The decision was driven by safety concerns following earlier fan tensions. The club regrets any offence caused and will review its guidelines to manage future situations more consistently.

Officials cited a prior incident involving a Pakistani flag being waved near Indian supporters, which prompted a “precautionary, safety-first approach” the following day.

Let’s see if this decision and the revised guidelines will be beneficial or cause more issues in the days to come.
