Trinidad’s Walcott Grabs Javelin Gold at World Athletics Championship Final

Trinidad and Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott came out as the ultimate winner in the Men’s Javelin Final at the World Athletics Championships. He won his first global title after winning Olympic gold in 2012. The exceptional 88.16m throw gave Walcott the Javelin crown of the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo, Japan.
In gusty conditions at National Stadium, Walcott produced a masterclass with the help of two long throws. The 32-year-old Caribbean athlete was literally invincible at the finals. He looked prepared to take the crown, as his throws landed right into the winning territory.
Walcott first got the Olympic gold in 2012 when he was just a teenager. This made headlines everywhere, as getting a gold at such a small age is itself a big achievement. After that, he once again won bronze in the Rio Olympics 2016.
The silver medal of the Men’s Javelin Final went to Anderson Peters of Grenada. He got the medal with a splendid 87.38m throw at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. This allowed him to add another big medal to his tally, complementing the wins of the 2019 and 2022 World Championships, where he also won golds.
The bronze medal went to Curtis Thompson of the United States. His throw of 86.67m in the final gave the US its first medal since Breaux Greer in 2007.
Surprisingly, Nadeem Arshad of Pakistan didn’t achieve any feat in the finals. It should be noted that Nadeem had an injury for quite some time. This forced the legendary athlete to focus on rehab during much of the season.
Nadeem performed well in the previous round to book a place in the finals. However, due to not being at his best, he couldn’t do well at the big stage that ultimately saw Caribbean stars taking the Javelin crown. Nadeem ultimately finished at the 10th position with his longest throw of 82.75m.
Meanwhile, Neeraj Chopra of India also failed to make a mark in the World Athletics Championship Final. He finished at the 8th position with his longest throw of 84.03m.
Some other notable names that missed the mark in the finals include Germany’s Julian Weber. He was considered one of the favorites to grab the gold in the final. However, he also failed to deliver. His longest throw of 86.11m fell well short to match the prowess of leading Caribbean Javelin stars.
