Joe Root, England cricket star, has responded to David Warner’s “surfboard” statement in the build-up to the Ashes 2025, keeping the exchange friendly but keeping the focus on cricket.

Warner, known for his playful pre-series jokes, said earlier this week that he might “bring a surfboard” to England. This was meant to be a jab at the unpredictable British summer weather. When asked about the remark, Root said the England camp took it as a joke. “It’s all part of the build-up, isn’t it?” Root said. “We enjoy a bit of banter before the series, but once we’re out there, it’s about competing hard and doing our job.”

The rivalry between the two sides has often featured an exchange of words and teasing before the first ball. This year is the same, with both teams entering the series in good form. Root also emphasised that England’s team is prepared to have a strong start and that they’re determined to deliver in front of home fans.

The first Test is set to begin at the end of this year, with both sides expected to bring their A team line-ups. For now, it seems the pre-series talk will keep the rivalry as entertaining off the field as it is on it.
