West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined 15 percent of his match fee and received a demerit point after breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first Test against Australia.

In the 55th over of Australia’s innings, Seales dismissed skipper Pat Cummins and twice gestured towards the dressing room—a “send-off” that officials deemed provocative under Article 2.5 (language, actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction). As a result, Seales was fined and reprimanded.

Post-play, Seales downplayed the gesture, according to Rediff, calling it “a bit of frustration” after a couple of good shots from Cummins: “It did not really mean anything… I just showed him where the dressing room was”.

This marks Seales’ second offence in 24 months. He previously received a demerit point in December 2024 during a Test against Bangladesh in Jamaica. His total now stands at two demerit points. If he accrues four within two years, suspension points follow automatically.

Seales has continued to impress with the ball, finishing day two with six wickets in the match after dismissing Josh Inglis, helping West Indies to a tight position. On first-innings, Shai Hope (48) and Roston Chase (44) added a key 67-run partnership, giving the hosts a slender 10-run lead. Australia ended day two at 92/4, leading by 82 runs.

While the fine seems costly, Seales has accepted the ruling without contest. His performance has kept West Indies firmly in the Test’s balance, even as disciplinary scrutiny looms.
