Hong Kong Announces Squad for Asia Cup 2025


Cricket Hong Kong has officially announced its 20-man squad for the coming Asia Cup 2025, which will start on September 9 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). All-rounder Yasim Murtaza will be their leader, and Babar Hayat, a stalwart with will be his constant support.
The team is scheduled to fly to the UAE on August 24, where it will join a high-powered preparation camp, comprising training drills and practice matches; activities which will be aimed at honing their skills in the build-up to the mega event.
Speaking about the build-up of the team, Cricket Hong Kong said it is excited:
“Team Hong Kong, China, will travel to the UAE for a full-fledged preparation camp featuring competitive matches and training sessions aimed at finalizing strategies for the ACC Asia Cup 2025.”
It will be the fifth time Hong Kong will compete in the Asia Cup, having previously played in 2004, 2008, 2018, and 2022. The team booked their spot in the tournament following their victory over Nepal in the 2024-ACC Premier Cup, which is indicative of their rising status as an Associate in the sport of cricket.
Servicing the squad with international experience, furthering their preparation, the newly appointed head coach and the former Sri Lanka cricketer Kaushal Silva expressed his faith in the players:
“Taking a 20-player squad gives us flexibility to assess each player closely and prepare them for the challenge ahead. The UAE camp will not only hone skills but will also give the UAE team spirit and the winning mindset that we aspire to develop.
Hong Kong will have to contend with a tricky opening against Afghanistan on September 9, and the way they fare in this game might be the indicator of their entire Asia Cup adventure.

With a mix of experience and young talent, Hong Kong enters the Asia Cup eager to prove themselves against some of the biggest cricketing nations on the continent.
