The Hobart Hurricanes XI have significantly strengthened their squad for the upcoming Guyana Global Super League (GSL) by signing Pakistani internationals Mohammad Nawaz and Sahibzada Farhan. The two are set to join a powerful overseas group as the Hurricanes aim for the $1 million prize at Providence Stadium from 10–18 July.

The Hurricanes, fresh off their title win in BBL|14, announced a 14-player squad combining local talent—like Ben McDermott, Jackson Bird and Billy Stanlake—with four international signings. West Indian all-rounder Odean Smith, Afghan veteran Mohammad Nabi, and now Nawaz and Farhan complete the overseas contingent.

Pakistan’s PCB has granted No Objection Certificates for Nawaz and Farhan, allowing them to compete. The move underscores Pakistan’s growing influence in global T20 leagues.

  • Mohammad Nawaz – A crafty left-arm spinner and capable lower-order batter, Nawaz impressed in the 2025 PSL, including a 49-ball 49 against Quetta. His control and versatility will add depth to the Hurricanes’ spin-heavy attack.

  • Sahibzada Farhan – Coming off a stellar PSL season with Islamabad United, Farhan amassed 394 runs at a 154 strike rate. His aggressive top-order presence and recent national recall make him a valuable asset in the Caribbean.

Hurricanes head coach Jeff Vaughan praised the additions, saying they bring flair and balance, essential for navigating unfamiliar conditions.

  • The Hurricanes open their GSL campaign on 10 July against the Central Stags, before facing the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Dubai Capitals, and Rangpur Riders.

Pakistan interest in the GSL extends beyond: Saud Shakeel will play for Guyana, and Khawaja Nafay joins Rangpur Riders, reflecting a growing Pakistani footprint.
