Harry Kane Stars as Bayern Munich Overcome Osnabrueck 4-1

Harry Kane Stars as Bayern Munich Overcome Osnabrueck 4-1

Harry Kane scored twice as Bayern Munich began their German Cup defence with a 4-1 comeback win away to second-tier Osnabrueck on Wednesday.

The holders were given an early scare when Robin Meissner produced a superb finish from outside the box after only five minutes. His dipping effort gave the home crowd plenty to celebrate and briefly put Bayern on the back foot.

The response from the Bundesliga champions was swift.

Kane levelled after hammering home a rebound, restoring some order after the hosts' bright opening. Six minutes later, Tom Bischof followed up another loose ball to put Bayern ahead.

Kane Takes Charge After Bayern Turnaround

Once Bayern moved in front, the game began to settle into a more familiar pattern.

Kane remained at the centre of their attack and continued to pose a threat around the Osnabrueck penalty area. Michael Olise eventually added a third in the 73rd minute, giving Bayern the breathing room they needed.

The England captain then completed his brace from the penalty spot four minutes from full time.

For Harry Kane, it was another productive night in front of goal. The striker has now scored 148 goals in 150 appearances across all competitions for Bayern since joining the club from Tottenham in 2023.

“I’m happy we got the win,” Kane said afterwards, while acknowledging the difficult atmosphere and Osnabrueck's impressive start.

Bayern Avoid First-Round Cup Shock

Bayern are the German Cup's most successful club, having lifted the trophy 21 times. Their record at this stage also highlights how unusual an early exit would be. They have not been eliminated in the first round since 1994.

That unwanted possibility never developed after Meissner's opener.

Osnabrueck had their moments, particularly in the opening stages, but Bayern Munich’s quality eventually began to tell. Bischof and Olise joined Kane on the scoresheet, helping the visitors turn a lively start from the hosts into a comfortable victory. The result keeps Bayern’s cup defence on track, while Kane once again showed why he remains such a decisive figure in any tournament.

Borussia Dortmund had already secured their place in the next round on Tuesday, cruising past fifth-division amateur side HEBC with a 5-0 win in Hamburg. Bayern will now turn their attention back to the season ahead after safely progressing, with Kane once again proving the difference when it mattered.
