England have recalled fast bowler Jofra Archer to their squad for the second Test against India, scheduled to begin on 2 July 2025 at Edgbaston

Archer, 30, last played Test cricket in February 2021 during the India tour. He has been sidelined for four years due to a series of injuries, including elbow and back stress fractures.

He recently made a return to red-ball cricket for Sussex, bowling 18 overs and claiming 1/32 against Durham—a performance that helped convince selectors to bring him back for Birmingham.

According to the Guardian, Sussex coach Paul Farbrace and former assistant coach Michael Vaughan have both lauded Archer's return but advocated for caution, suggesting he might better be introduced in the third Test to manage his workload.

Nonetheless, England's bowling coach Neil Killeen confirmed Archer is physically fit and ready for action, with no restrictions on his workload heading into Edgbaston.

Archer’s inclusion adds serious pace and aggression to a bowling unit that impressed in the first Test, securing a five-wicket victory at Headingley.

Jofra Archer’s return to the Test arena is a major boost for England’s pace attack, offering both speed and experience. Having shown his fitness and form in domestic cricket, he’s likely to feature at Edgbaston starting 2 July. However, selectors remain cautious, and his inclusion signals a balanced cup of opportunity and restraint.
