England, the current leaders, won the game by 22 runs in the closest encounter in a week of Test cricket against India at Lord's, regarding the vital 2 to 1 lead skip against India in the five-Test Anderson Tendulkar Trophy. It was a heroic unbeaten 61 by Ravindra Jadeja, but Indian resistance was not able to resist till the end, and England bowlers stood firm through the last session.

England's morning surge saw Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes combine brilliantly, snaring early wickets and reducing India to 112 for 8 at lunch. The debutant Shoaib Bashir claimed the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj, securing the win after returning from a finger injury.

Stokes ended the match as Player of the Match, finishing with five wickets across both innings and playing a key fielding role.

After England declared, setting a modest target of 193, India’s top order collapsed. Jadeja’s defiant 61 off 181 balls*, supported by Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj, almost pulled off a miracle.

He survived a tough LBW review and repeatedly fought England's attack, keeping hopes alive late into the day. Ultimately, England’s bowlers broke the stand, sealing an intense victory.

What This Win Means

England gained the upper hand once again, and at 2-1 up by the defeat of two tests, the advantage was back with them. The middle order of India failed to perform under the pressure, and this was seen to lack stability, which is the missing piece, or rather, the lack of a Kohli-like anchor in the lineup.

There were acrimonious on-field exchanges, such as the sending-off of Ben Duckett against Siraj, which further augmented the tensions. Skipper Shubman Gill said that the intensity made the spectacle better.

The determination of England in stress, which was guided by Stokes, Archer, and Bashir, gave the heavenly lead which eventually pushed past the gallant fightback of Jadeja. With the series going to Old Trafford, England has the edge. Would India be able to pull itself back up and even the score?
