Joe Root's Masterful Heroics Help England Beat India in Second ODI

Joe Root played a key role with the bat as England defeated India by four wickets in the second ODI at Sophia Gardens. The win levelled the three-match ODI series at 1-1, with Gus Atkinson and Jofra Archer also making important contributions with the ball.

England hunted down the target in 44.1 overs after losing six wickets. Root led the chase from the front, remaining unbeaten on 99 from 133 balls. He hit nine fours but missed out on a century by just one run. The masterful batting by Joe Root once again showed why he is still the most dependable batter for the struggling English team.

Talking about the chase, England lost both openers early, with Ben Duckett dismissed without scoring and Jacob Bethell managing only four runs.

As far as other contributions are concerned, Will Jacks scored 30 from 44 deliveries, while Sam Curran and Atkinson chipped in with short cameos of 26 and 23. Jos Buttler added 17 runs, while captain Harry Brook went back to the pavilion after scoring just 16.

Gurnoor Brar was India's most successful bowler, finishing with 2/67 from his 10 overs. Interestingly, Jasprit Bumrah looked a bit off-color today, as he managed to pick just one wicket in the second innings.

Talking about the first innings, India posted 233 before being bowled out in 44 overs. Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries, while Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah also made useful contributions.

Iyer was India's top scorer with 66 runs, hitting five fours and two sixes. Kohli followed with a fighting 65 off 66 deliveries, including eight fours.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill added 31 runs to the board with the help of six fours, while Rohit Sharma made 26 off 47 deliveries. Bumrah then provided a late boost with a quick 20 from 13 balls, hitting three fours and a six.

The lower order of India didn’t provide any contribution, as Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel scored one run each, while Washington Sundar went back to the pavilion after scoring just two. Shivam Dube and Prasidh Krishna were equally disappointing, as they were dismissed without scoring any runs.

Due to this dismal performance, India were bowled out for 233, which was then chased by England in the second innings to level the ODI series 1-1.
