South Africa sealed a commanding innings-and-236-run victory over Zimbabwe on the third day of the second Test at Queens Sports Club, completing a swift 2–0 series sweep in just three days.

After being asked to bat, South Africa declared at a massive 626–5, with stand-in captain Wiaan Mulder unbeaten on 367 — a career-best that fell just 34 runs short of Brian Lara’s record, before Mulder consciously declared out of respect.

Zimbabwe were bundled out for 170 in their first innings and collapsed again to 220 in the follow-on. Seamers Corbin Bosch (4–38) and spinner Senuran Muthusamy (3 wickets) spearheaded the bowling charge.

Why it matters

  • Batting dominance: Mulder’s innings is now the fifth-highest ever in Tests and the highest by a South African .

  • Depth on display: South Africa fielded a near-second string but still extended their Test winning streak to 10 matches.

  • Zimbabwe’s resistance: Only Nick Welch (55), Craig Ervine (49), and Takudzwanashe Kaitano (40) offered noteworthy resistance.

South Africa now target another 10–match winning streak, building momentum ahead of their tour of Pakistan in October. Zimbabwe will regroup as they prepare to host New Zealand for a two-Test series later this month.

Despite resting many key players, South Africa’s 2–0 victory in just three days showcased their unmatched depth and dominance in Test cricket—while Mulder’s gargantuan knock stands as one of the modern era’s most memorable.
