Dasun Shanaka Smashes 39-Ball Fastest Century in CPL History

Dasun Shanaka Smashes 39-Ball Fastest Century in CPL History

Dasun Shanaka produced one of the most destructive innings in Caribbean Premier League history, smashing a 39-ball century as St Kitts and Nevis Patriots crushed St Lucia Kings by 137 runs on Thursday.

The Sri Lankan all-rounder broke the previous CPL record for the fastest hundred, which stood at 40 balls and was jointly held by Andre Russell, Tim Seifert and Shimron Hetmyer.

Shanaka walked in at No. 4 with the Patriots on 89-2 in the 10th over. He did not need long to change the game.

Shanaka Turns Up the Power

Andre Fletcher had already laid the foundation with 64 from 38 balls, including 10 boundaries and four sixes. After his dismissal, Shanaka took over.

He began with two sixes against Roston Chase and reached his half-century from only 24 deliveries. Even the arrival of fellow Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana did little to slow him down.

Shanaka attacked Theekshana for two sixes and a four before saving his most brutal assault for the final over.

Keon Gaston conceded 28 runs as Shanaka launched four sixes and a four, sending the Patriots racing to 235-4.

The Sri Lankan finished unbeaten on 128 from just 43 balls. His innings contained eight fours and 12 sixes, while he shared an unbeaten 93-run stand with Wanindu Hasaranga from only 31 deliveries.

Patriots Set New CPL Winning Record

The Patriots had already posted a huge total, but their night was about to get even better.

St Lucia Kings never got close to mounting a serious chase. They were bowled out for 98 in just 13.5 overs, handing the Patriots a 137-run victory.

Jeremiah Louis did the damage with the ball, producing remarkable figures of 5-10 from 2.5 overs.

The margin also set another CPL 2026 record. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' 137-run win became the biggest victory by runs in CPL history, surpassing Trinbago Knight Riders' previous mark of 133 runs against Barbados Royals in 2023.

Playoff Hopes Receive Major Boost

The emphatic result could prove important in the Patriots' playoff push.

They remain fifth in the table, but their net run rate received a huge boost, climbing from -0.547 to 0.593 after the victory.

For Dasun Shanaka, though, the night was about a record that will take some beating. A 39-ball century, 12 sixes and an unbeaten 128 turned what began as a competitive Patriots innings into an extraordinary display of hitting.

The CPL 2026 playoff race has also been given a significant twist, with the Patriots now carrying a far healthier net run rate into the remaining matches.
