Chattogram Royals held their nerves to defeat Rajshahi Warriors in a thrilling BPL encounter. They chased down a tricky total of 129 runs on the last ball of the match, courtesy of a fine knock by Hasan Nawaz in the second innings. By winning the match, Royals have strengthened top position on the points table, with five wins in seven matches.
Rajshahi Warriors would be proud of their effort, as they displayed a stunning fightback while defending a very low total. Their bowlers were on target throughout the second innings, however, a masterclass from Hasan Nawaz overcame their valiant determination.
Batting first, Rajshahi Warriors got off to a poor start. Their openers couldn’t live up to the expectations, as Royals sent them back to the pavilion very early in the Powerplay. Tanzid Hasan continued his poor form with the bat, as he got out after scoring just 5 runs. Similarly, Muhammad Waseem looked out of touch in today’s match, as Tanvir Islam bowled him with a beauty.
The captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, also failed to make any impact in today’s game. He came in to bat at number three, but got out quickly after scoring just 7 runs. His dismissal was a big blow for the Warriors lineup, as they were relying on him to score big in the first innings.
After the wicket of Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim and SM Meherob tried to build a partnership in the middle. They also failed to go big, as Aamer Jamal and Tanvir Hasan removed them quickly. Losing Mushfiqur Rahim brought more pressure on Rajshahi Warriors, as he usually anchors their innings towards the end.
The lower order of Warriors also failed to contribute strongly on the board, as batters kept losing their wickets one after another. Due to this, they never found the batting impetus that was needed towards the end. As a result, Rajshahi Warriors managed to post just 128 on the board at the end of the first innings.
When Chattogram Royals came out to bat, they also endured a horrible start. The top order of Royals failed to counter the attack of Warriors, as Meherob and Fernando bowled exceptionally well in the Powerplay. They removed Naim, Rossington, and Joy very early in the innings, giving Warriors a strong hope to defend the target.
The arrival of Hasan Nawaz at number four gave Chattogram Royals some stability in the middle, as he batted cautiously to take the chase forward. His partnership with the captain, Mahedi Hasan, was crucial as both rotated the strike smartly to put pressure on the Warriors bowling lineup.
The match became interesting when Rajshahi Warriors picked back-to-back wickets towards the end of the innings. Both Ripon Mondol and Binura Fernando showcased their death bowling class, as Royals came in panic due to quick dismissals.
Fortunately, Hasan Nawaz held his nerves to take the chase deep. He batted with confidence in the last over, knowing he had the capability to hit big boundaries. Due to his unwavering knock of 35 runs, Chattogram Royals sealed the chase of 129 runs on the last ball of the match. It was a clinical win for the Royals, as they overcame a spirited fightback from the Warriors in this nail-biting BPL 2025/26 encounter.
