Arsenal have officially completed the signing of talented Spanish centre-back Cristhian Mosquera from Valencia. The 21-year-old has joined the Gunners on a long-term contract until 2030, with the deal reportedly worth an initial €15 million — potentially rising to €20 million with add-ons.

Mosquera featured in 37 of 38 La Liga matches last season, accruing 90 senior appearances for Valencia and becoming one of Europe's most dependable young defenders.

Manager Mikel Arteta described Mosquera as "intelligent, pacey and versatile," capable of slotting in central or on the right as injuries and workload demand. Sporting director Andrea Berta called him a long-term asset, highlighting his strong reputation in European football.

Player Profile & Style

  • Versatility: Primarily a centre-back, also fielded at right-back and across the back line, offering tactical flexibility.

  • Maturity & Reliability: Played over 6,300 minutes across the last two seasons — the most of any U21 player in Europe’s top flights — showing notable resilience and fitness.

  • Scouting acclaim: Seen by Arsenal as one of the most promising young defenders in Spain, with a track record of consistency and composure at the top level.

Mosquera also brings elite youth international experience representing Spain across U15 to U21 levels, including winning Olympic gold at the 2024 Paris Games. He is also eligible for Colombia through parentage.

Integration & Outlook

  • Jersey number: Mosquera will wear No.3, formerly worn by Kieran Tierney.

  • Pre-season debut: He has already joined the Emirates squad in Singapore and may feature in upcoming friendlies against Newcastle and Tottenham.

  • Squad depth upgrade: The signing adds reinforcement for key centre-backs William Saliba and Gabriel, a priority given Arsenal’s injury-plagued campaign last season.

Arteta emphasised that while Mosquera might not be a regular starter immediately, his arrival strengthens squad depth and long-term planning. The move continues Arsenal’s busy summer window, following signings such as Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, and Christian Nørgaard.

Arsenal launch their 2025–26 Premier League season on 17 August at Manchester United, making pre-season preparation key for Mosquera’s adaptation. With competition heating up at the back, the youngster will aim to establish himself as a reliable option and future starter.
