Amazon Warriors bounce back, Royals still without a win

Barbados Royals just can’t find a way out. Another defeat, their fourth in five matches, left them winless in CPL 2025, as Guyana Amazon Warriors pulled off a four-wicket chase in rain-hit Bridgetown.
It could have been worse for the Warriors. At 30 for 4 in five overs, with Ben McDermott, Moeen Ali, Shimron Hetmyer and Hassan Khan already back in the dugout, it looked like a third straight loss was on the cards. But Shai Hope stood tall. And then Dwaine Pretorius arrived.
The pair changed the entire mood. Pretorius hit 53 from 34 balls, while Hope kept the chase steady. Together they added 89 runs in 60 balls. Their stand ended the Royals’ early control. By the time Pretorius fell, the Guyana Amazon Warriors had clawed back into control. Hope carried it home with an unbeaten 62, finishing the game with a six alongside Quentin Sampson.
Earlier, Rovman Powell’s late fireworks gave Barbados Royals something to defend. His 28-ball 50, packed with six sixes, came after Brandon King’s steady 39 and Rassie van der Dussen’s patient 45. But Gudakesh Motie’s 2 for 16 kept them to 165, a score that never felt safe once Hope settled in.
The Royals sink further with every defeat and must change their approach. For the Warriors, this victory restores momentum after two straight losses. Suddenly, the CPL table looks a little different. Follow all CPL 2025 updates on tapmad.
