Shoaib Malik’s BPL Contract Terminated Due To Match Fixing Allegations

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is in full swing which has attracted many Pakistani players to join the league. Shoaib Malik being the top-notch player, marking his way forward in Pakistan’s cricket has also joined BPL. He is part of "Fortune Barishal", which is playing with all fervor in the entire league. There are on- going rumors that the Malik’s contract has been terminated on the suspicion of match-fixing. This rumor, however, sparkled once Malik bowled 3- no balls in one of the over where he was battling against Khulna Tigers. This even gained the limelight when he gave them away the 18-runs. How come?

To this, the owner of Fortune Barishal, Mizanur Rahman, in conversation with Channel 24 stated an ACU investigation should take place, as a 3- no ball in one entire over elevates concerns, that too coming from off-spinner looks really absurd to him. Shoaib Malik, to this allegation, raises the point and cleared himself, by stating, “Things have ended up mutually and I was the victim of any complaint or allegation from the league, I was part of. I had to leave Bangladesh due to prior commitments in Dubai”.

However, a day later, Mizanur refuted the statement and passed his official statement which has quashed all the allegations against Malik. To this, Mizanur highlighted “I have not talked to anyone in media and has not questioned on Shoaib’s performance”. He further mentioned, “Shoaib played well in the series and was a good addition to Fortune Barishal. He is an excellent player who has given 100% of his efforts to the team”. He also stated they have not filed any complaint against him to any officials and that, they should only focus on the upcoming BPL matches.

Overall, Fortune Barishal, up till now has played 3 matches in the overall tournament, losing two and winning only one. So far, they are languishing in the 2nd to last spot in the leaderboard. In the ever-unfolding sports narrative, this is a developing story.
